I just realized that since I respond anonymous and you comment anonymous you may not get my responses so I will start adding them in my blog! The bed situation is irritating but not tragic. I can always look up hotels but they cost a lot and being on foot with a pack it I hard to walk to a hotel and then find they are full. I forgot to mention so far most towns are all up hill thus making getting around them much harder. Worst case we take a taxi to another town. The toilet paper situation is much harder. I have tissues but she we stop we take the packs off and I forget to bring it in with me. Anything else you may want to know? Learn about? Etc? Tonight we had dinner with a Spaniard and two other Americans. The Spainard was so excited to speak Spanish with Bastian and I. Together we were able to have great conversation on multiple subjects from war to cooking to our careers (he is a hospital administrator). He said it made him very happy to have someone who is a native English speaker speak Spanish with him. We had a blast trying to keep up. Seriously we don't know much Spanish but most of the people we know literally don't know any! Also the pilgrims are treated with GREAT respect. The townspeople shake our hands and wish us Buen Camino and go out of their way to assist. I was resting for a moment and my walking stick slipped this lady jumped up from her cerveza (beer) and picked it up moving it to a safe place before I could even move. Than she shook my hand and made eye contact saying 'Buen Camino' (good walk). Just the admiration is overwhelming. It is like being a celebrity as you walk through son towns. Everyone smiles and nods. Very different feel. Bedvtime for me early to rise and head 21km to Santo Domingo del Calzado.

hey; you speak Spanish ? wooHoo bet you will be picking up more words/conversation along the way too. :D:D
ReplyDeleteI had to keep toilet paper handy too! I just learned to make it easily available. Maybe small towns just dont have that many beds available?
ReplyDeleteIt's me... Ant L..."talking" with people in broken whatever language is fun!! Glad you could speak to that Spaniard in his language! However incorrect you may have been I'm sure he/she was thrilled. But it sounds like you did a pretty good job! I've been able to figure out when you post under anonymous. You're describing how your trip is going, or answering someone's question. I'm glad you had an easy day today you guys deserve it!!! You never did say where you ended up sleeping? Hotel, hostel? Is going to the next town the answer?
