Last night the sounds and smells of the rain wafted through the window. Soothing and cooling off hot room. Perfect! This morning at 5am I did not think so highly of the rain! Pouring down making mud and puddles everywhere! We decided to delay our early departure an you and left at 6:30am made it to Terradillos by 1245pm!
Walking is really hard, monotonous, grueling work. The scenery is gorgeous but does not change much. There are a few things one can do to help stay focused and keep motivated to stay at a fair pace. For me this is what i do: -sing a march tune - talk to people this can slow you down but usually it is the best distraction up hills! - pretend the pilgrims behind me are zombies and if they catch me I will become a zombie too! (most days I end up a zombie though I won today!) - try to pick someone going about the same speed and pass them work on staying ahead. Usually if we walk together for a bit. - think though lost in my own thoughts I slow a lot. - listen to music - count. Steps, rock, flower, trees whatever I see. Any suggestions? Lastly the flies have started biting but they get distracted and I can slap them to death! Seriously killed three flies tho way on the walk today!
Forgot to mention if it wasn't for our reservation we would not have had a room! They filled up as we got here. Seriously thankful for reservations especially because of rain delay!

Things to do to keep yourself from going mad with boredom? Well, you could pretend you're soldiers shot down behind enemy lines, trying to make it to allies, and Charlie is in the Bush, but that seems stressful. (You know, you probably should have done an auction to take someone's pokemon pedometer thing with you; you could have made some cool cash.) ;K)
ReplyDeleteMan you are right I should have a pedometer! Damn hindsight! -shelley
DeleteSo I guess you didn't miss the rain after all :(. Sooo glad you had a reservation!!! Thinking your fellow travelers are zombies crack me up!! But if it works go for it. The best motivation I can think of is getting a better shot for a bed. Did you get new shoes or inserts/insoles? It's amazing to think of all the people that have walked where you are right now. Hundreds of years ago what were the experiences of the pilgrims compared to yours. The flies were probably there and the ground is the same. The scenery is the same, basically. The people are the same but the life styles are different, no skyping, no internet, no electricity.... Ant L
ReplyDeleteThe olden days would have been horribly difficult! No new shoes yet this town I so small the only store is in the hostel!
