As awesome and gorgeous as yesterday is as horrid and ugly today was. I wish I had taken a bus into Burgos! However this hotel almost makes up for it.
First we left Ages at 5:55am and arrived at the hotel by 1230 about 23km. First there was the rocky 1000m climb. By rocks I mean sharp pointy largish rocks tgat move when stepped on. It was still dark so my headlamp finally earned its keep! Once at the top the view was eh though it wasn't quite sunrise yet. From Ages you could see the light pollution of the big Burgos city (from over the mountain it looked like a sunrise). After the mountain there were a few towns.
We started our day with a view of a largeish hill(1000meters)and a glow over the hill from the Burgos light pollution. The hill would not have been so terrible I it wasn't for the rocks. Seriously I have this new found irritant for rocks. Not just any rocks but those jagged small to medium sized rocks that shift just so under your feet as you step on them. Up and down this hill that is what we had. We were also in the dark so my headlamp finally earned its keep! At the top there was a cross but not much view. After the next town we walked on the main busy road literally on the asphalt. It was horrid! Hard and unforgiving. The best part was the sun wasn't hot too. We walked like this around an airport and through villafrac. Then past auto dealers and industrial parks. Finally into the city proper. Here we pause to consult the map when a guy accosts me. He pat my head and petted my arm. It was super creepy. We found out later he accosted another perigrino a guy wearing a symbol on his shirt he says the guy kissed the symbol. We walked on and on finally into the older side of town and our hotel.
Our Hotel is fabulous! By 2pm I had soaked in my bathtub stretched and ready for a nap. By 4pm I was refreshed from my nap. The bathroom is almost as large as the bedroom with a bidet as well. We have a corner room with limited wifi signal but opening the windows the cross breeze is fabulous almost as good as true air conditioning. Now time to relax and tour the city a little.
The photos have all been taken by Bastian. He then e-mails me and I post them here! He chose not to take any of the industrial world. I have some on my real camera.
Cathedral in Burgos. Stunning!
It's good to see you have some decent hotel stays! I bet the industrial towns are all amazing! Some of the pictures I've seen so far look like something from Assassin's Creed! The cathedrals look fantastic! They don't make buildings like that anymore! From the pictures you posted yesterday and the shaded walk way it seemed like a nice day! YOU'VE GONE SO FAR! SO GLAD YOUR ENJOYING THE TRIP! =3
ReplyDeleteBy the description of your tan it must look pretty strange. But really who's going to notice but you? Unless it's noticeable straight on. Glad you had a nice soak!! Your hotel sounds Fabulous!!! The light pollution and "big" city must come as a shock after where you have been. Was probably cool in the cathedral. I mean temperature wise. Love that you're sleeping in (I hope) and taking a taxi...you earned it! I suppose all days can't be perfect like the last entry. Time for dinner here. Blisters are healing I hope....and no new ones!!! Ant L
ReplyDeleteLove the photos! Keep them coming! Tell Bastian I said... well, you know.
