Around Astorga

The town prior to Astorga, San Justo de la Vega had this lovely cross and long paved downhill ending with this pilgrim statue. Shortly after taking this photo it started to poor rain so we rushed through this town. We had about 3km in rain to get to Astorga.

Astorga is a town that was once an important Roman city. There is even roman ruins in one section. Here is a great picture of the city from a distance. You can see the storm resurgence about to hit.

To enter the city one must go over the 'bridge' to cross the train tracks. You can see Bastian up there.

Once entering the city this is what greets you.

We wandered the city a bit and saw a funeral. It was a politician the costumes were ornate and the processional had about 20 brass players. Fascinating to watch. We did not take photos. Lastly we visited the Chocolate museum! Astorga is the birthplace of European chocolate brought here in the 1500's. We tasted son it was great! I wanted to buy a bar to mail him but I can't find a post office and it would melt if I held onto it! Now time for packing and sleep!
