Started 5:30am ended in Boadilla at 12:50pm. Not a minute too soon. We started with a couple of rocks and slowly progressed to sharp jagged pointy rocks EVERYWHERE. Our next destination is 24.6 km away in CarriĆ³n de Los Condes.
Today - started lovely. We walked 10km in about 1hr 45min and then stopped for son breakfast in Castrojerriz. Even skyped with the parents for a moment. Was off by 7:30am and energized until we left town and the sun came up over the horizon to show us a 1km 12% grade. After surviving this climb (in 20 min) we rested to catch our breath. A nice flat walk with cool breeze and the sun shaking off the cool evening. Than suddenly the downhill appeared - 350 meters 18% grade . My knees hated this but it was paved so a reprieve from rocks.
The last 6 km was very difficult. We rounded a corner and could see the town but it took forever for it to start getting close. The sun became hot, the pack began feeling heavy, my legs moved on but my feet screamed stop. Finally to the Alburgue! Nice place pool and grass which are great for foot theray! Met some young German gals who are excited to help us with places to visit in Berlin!
We are thinking ahead and booked our airflight from Portugal to London on Oct 6th. Working on a flight from London to Amsterdam but not sure of the date yet.
More Europe musings: - the date is written day/month/year which is still confusing me. - instead of $300.00 it I written as 300,00€ the comma really throws me off at the ATM. - the more you swat at flies the more they will bother you.
You would think after all the pilgrims that have taken this journey the sharp rocks would have smoothed out. There must be a cheaper way to get from London to Amsterdam. Maybe a train??? Tons of people from England go to Amsterdam (for obvious reasons). Ant L Think of you often
ReplyDeleteActually we may take the underground train to Brussels instead.
