Day 24 - not so short...

The Albergue de la Piedre was fantastic! Stone walls and the best view of the Camino! So awesome I decided to make it part of my early daily photo. Isn't it spectacular?
If I didn't mention it the Albergue had awesome Wi-Fi, a shower with back jets, and that view! The beds were eh you could sit up under the top bunk but there was a metal bar that was irritating when lying down. But our room of 6 had our own bathroom and shower and that is all I needed. My second shower was as heavenly as my first. I say all tho because I learned a Great Albergue can make all the difference in the world the next morning!
We had scheduled ourselves a nice short day 18km so we left at 7:15am. We got to our location by 1130 the weather was perfect! Sun shinning still cool so we opted to push on to La Laguna a mere 7km more! Of course that is 7km and 450m up a hill. The steepest hill on the Camino. Bastian went up ahead to secure a room and I arrived about 30 min later - around 2:30pm. This photo illustrates a not so steep portion of the climb up. Unknown pilgrims in photo to illustrate the grade.
As we left Trabadelo we smelled something heavenly and saw this woman roasting peppers on the side of the road.
And here I am leaving Trabadelo

As we exited La Portela de Valcarce we passed a church. A lady approached us and told us it is an important church being the second oldest on the Camino. We stopped to look around. A lot of these smaller churches look the same.

This is the finally stretch to get up to La Laguna. Every few hours some guy walks his cows to/from somewhere. The road is COVERED in Cow Patties and horse poop. As you can take horses up to the top of the mountain. It made for a rather stinky and precarious footing climb, however the flies didn't bother me as much.

Our Albergue was called A escuela and the only one in town. The town is small and out of the way no Wi- Fi to be found! The food was bleh mostly flavorless though the stuffed pork was delicious! Stuffed with ham and hardboiled egg. I stretched a lot and used son of this topical Ibuprofen everyone raves about. I think I really works so I picked some up for myself! It was a rough day! The clouds came back shortly after we stopped so I had another day of staying in and keeping warm!

  1. I love the church inside!! Looks so cozy and inviting. Glad you didn't get rained on. You gonna try roasting these heavenly smelling peppers yourself? Well the flies were happy with the cow/horse patties so they left you alone, but you had to deal with the smell. Which would you rather have? Was the smell worth no flies?? Ant L

    1. I prefer the cow lies at least I can usually walk around those and it isn't like they try to choke me... That and I have a bandana I can put over my nose for the smell!
