Belgium Bruges - city canal tour

Our first morning in Bruges we slept in and had the best brunch. No photos but this is simply the best concept. It is called Books and Brunch. Think small used bookstore filled with books and tables and chairs. Some are sofas with coffee table, some cafe style, or you could enjoy the window seat. You are encouraged to grab a book order some brunch and just chill out. Lose yourself over tea and Vonnegut? Or maybe a croissant and Pratchett? Or like me eggs, bread, tea, and vampires! No rush though they fill up quick no one came by to say please leave. And if you feel the need you can buy the book too. Fresh food. Well done ambiance. A very relaxed feel.

Anyways - the true touristy tjing to do in Bruges is take a boat tour of the canal. There are 5 boat companies and all are the same tour just disembark from different locations. They even are all the same price.

So after our lovely brunch at Books and Brunch we moseyed to the nearest location and caught a cruise.

So they pack the boats pretty tightly but this does not detract from the scenery just makes it less romantic. But hey this is a TOURIST thing to do so naturally it is full of people. The views are still great.

This local likes to watch the boats of people go by.

Fun statues and drain spouts are everywhere along the canal.

Lots of low bridges to go under.

I enjoyed it. Our cameras were acting up so the photos are few but the memories are plentiful. Bruges is the most touristy quaint little medieval town. The cans just enhances its uniqueness. If you look over my shoulder you can even see some of the famous Bruges swans!

See perfect.

  1. The books and brunch sound very inviting! But I don't see it ever catching on here. Restaurants here have one goal, make $$$. If people are encouraged to take their time, even read, unheard of. It's a FANTASTIC idea and would be great here. I'm surprised to see the boats so full on a weekday in October. It was a weekday wasn't it? The statues are fun and the pictures are great!! I don't know what problems you had with the camera, but I couldn't tell. You're getting to see a lot in Belgie. :) Ant L

    1. Yes it was a weekday Monday actually. This place is full of tourists seriously crowded. My camera battery died and Bastian's touch screen phone wasn't responding to touch.

Sleeping in sounds as luscious as Book and Brunch :-) There are little coffee houses around here that have comphy seats, and books people bring in / swap etc. none have the nice lunch / brunch tho.. that i have found. Nice concept, and it so sounds like You :). riding down the canals looks like so much fun ! Love the Pictures, look like you caught quite few nice scenes to post. sent you email btw, it's Tuesday and i miss our chats !

    1. It worked on me! But I was also wanting a book. Some of The hostels have book swaps.
