Route 66 day 8 4/26/2026 Albuquerque to Santa Fe to holbrook, AZ

This was a LOT and probably could have been broken up into 2 days however I am eager to get to Los Angeles and visit with my family sooner so I will have longer with them before we turn aroun and drive back.

We took the Turquoise trail up to the Tinkertown museum. This is a whimsical very unique folk art museum in Sandia park, NM created by Ross Ward. He hand carved and animated miniature Western town and circus using recycled materials. There is even a boat that was used to sail around the world!

Our friends recommended Madrid (pronounced Mad-rid no Muh-drid). This small town gives off strong Yellow springs vibes and was such fun to explore. We could totally have spent a lot longer just wandering around and shopping. We had buffalo burgers, local beer, bought local honey and chocolate.

Next stop was Santa Fe to visit Meow wolfs Santa Fe immersive art experience the House of Eternal Return (they have a different exhibit in Las Vegas, Colorado, 2 in Texas, and soon in LOs Angeles and New york!). It is hard to explain the experience without actually seeing it. There is a story and lots of exploring the world they created.

We were pretty worn out by the end but decided to press on as there wasn't a whole lot more we were planning to see in New Mexico and figured hotels would be less expensive outside of the city.
